EC half-heartedly indicates battery about to run out of charge

Description

I was using a production XO-1.5 with a lightly charged battery. After a few minutes, I saw the battery LED flash yellow then red. This was repeated around five minutes later, and then probably three minutes later. Finally, it started flashing quickly and then the laptop shut down.

The laptop was running os110 (and matching firmware).

At no time did the laptop show the "constant red" low battery warning. The laptop was suspending regularly.

Tested on Q3A36 with a near empty battery. EC shows red for a while, then alternating red and yellow, then the laptop turns off.

Problem occurs while suspending when the battery voltage is in the critical zone.

Current EC HEAD adds a .5V hysteresis on clearing the critical flag.
