Custom Google OLPC search is broken

Reported by: greenfeld Owned by: sj
Priority: normal Milestone: 12.1.0
Component: olpc library Version: Development build as of this date

Action Needed: no action Verified: no

The custom Google OLPC search in Browse does not work in 11.3.1 os32, as Google accuses the form of potentially sending automated queries.

The fix to this likely is similar to the fix that had to be made to wiki.laptop.org's sidebar for a similar issue.

The OLPC wiki fix uses a Google-hosted javascript file. Not great for a homepage often shown when offline. Instead I used the technique here: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how_can_i_add_a_google_search_box_to_my_web_site.html which doesn't require a google-hosted JS file, and doesn't get blocked as automated. The search result page isn't OLPC branded, but hey.

Fixed in olpc-library-2.0.5

Test in 12.1.0 build 11.

  • resolution set to fixed

The custom search for laptop.org works in 12.1.0 os11, but searches entered in it's text field migrate to the generic Google search form when the Back button is used in Browse.

Filed this quirk separately as Sugar:3633.
