Without commenting directly on the firstboot screen, I'd like to also point out that in later boots (while the XO logo's arms are circling around its head), pressing the brightness keys not only don't change the brightness, but display a lot of "^{[[20~"-type escape codes across the top of the screen. This is at least unaesthetic, probably also a defect since wanting to turn down the brightness right away (to save battery) is something a lot of people will tend to try.}
