#428 closed defect (fixed)

EC code not in-house.

Reported by: dwmw2 Owned by: mlj
Priority: normal Milestone: Opportunity
Component: distro Version:
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Deployments affected: Action Needed: never set
Verified: no

We need our own EC code before the B2 build. This requires:

  1. Attempt to obtain permission from ENE for their parts. (MarkF?)
  2. Obtain Quanta's parts. (MarkF?)
  3. Reimplement #1 if necessary. (dwmw2, if nobody else)
  4. Put it all together into our buildrom stuff (again, dwmw2)

  • Milestone changed from BTest-2 to CTest

  • Milestone changed from CTest to BTest-3
  • Owner changed from mfoster to wad

So we have Quanta and the Gold Peaks' blessing.

I would suggest a concrete proposal of putting a GPL on the code be made to ENE, and that in return, we either transfer copyright on any modifications we make or MIT copyright what we do in the EC code; this would enable ENE to sell a commercial version still under a separate commercial license.

  • Owner changed from wad to mlj
  • Priority changed from blocker to high

The solution is political, not technical.

  • Milestone changed from BTest-4 to CTest
  • Verified unset

  • Status changed from new to assigned

RIchard is making due wiht less than perfect situation - this is unlikely to be resolved soon, but we are trying to rewrite with uncontaminated people as time and efforts allow.

  • Priority changed from high to normal

we are getting close here to a compromise solution - getting the EC code but not open source, and then in parallel (when time allows) doing a complete rewrite of it from scratch to allow a GPL version.

  • Milestone changed from Trial-3 to Opportunity (please help!)

Moving this to Opportunity as it is not gating any release.

  • Action Needed set to never set
  • Resolution set to fixed
  • Status changed from assigned to closed

Per communication from rsmith, closing as fixed.
