Abiword save as rtf can't be read by other programs

I added text and images to a doc on Abiword; changed the name 'cats'; and then did a keep as rtf. I copied it to a usb key and tried to open with textedit on a mac and it says it can't open it.

I also changed its name from the default: 'cats (RTF).rtf' to 'cats.rtf'

I put the usb stick into a second laptop (same build) and it could load and show the text and images for the file called 'cats'; but when it tried to load the one called 'cats (RTF).rtf', the word doc was empty. I had only copied one file to the USB stick, but it looks like it actually copied both the original file AND the .rtf file.

This file is actually an abiword file. Somehow the signal to save as an RTF file is not working. The AbiWord team will investigate.

While you are at it, can you please change this:

fileObject.file_path = os.path.join(self._activity.get_activity_root(), 'data', '%i' % time.time())

You should use "instance" instead of "data" now. (It might not break functionality but I think it's better to do this right).

If this was fixed and "closed" two months ago, I'd suspect the fix would have been in the Write version on the G1G1 machines in December... but it isn't.

"Keep as RTF" merely changes the name of the file; looking at it with an ascii editor shows that it is still AbiWord doc format.

(I'm not a developer and don't know whether "update.1" is still coming or was before G1G1. I'm just trying to write some how-to instructions for newcomers. If there's an update that Joe User can/should download, let me know and I'll add it to the wiki.)
