sugar-control-panel does not accept non-ASCII characters when given as nick name: 

sugar-control-panel: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd8 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128)

I think this is Simon's baby.

I suspect this should be a simple fix I might consider for update.1. Non-ascii names are *very* common in many parts of the world...

This is fixed in git and went for testing in joyride 2104 with the sugar snapshot sugar-81.5-2.20080703git4f3f508bc3
