#5952 closed defect (fixed)

some keyboard keys only work when released

Reported by: dsd Owned by: bernie
Priority: high Milestone: 8.2.0 (was Update.2)
Component: x window system Version:
Keywords: Cc:
Blocked By: Blocking:
Deployments affected: Action Needed: finalize
Verified: no

Description

Take the key to the left of "1" (varies depending on layout).

Under sugar, in a terminal or write activity or similar: Hold left shift and HOLD the key in question. Release the key in question after a few seconds - note that the character only appears on-screen when you release the key.

Now do the same with right shift. The character appears on press (rather than on release).

Same thing for the key to the right of ":" on a US keyboard.

The problem does not happen on a physical terminal, implying an X or evdev bug.

Very interesting....

More strangeness on the input side of the world.

Does not happen on the Linux VT's...

This is working at the moment in olpc3-17. however it might only be because evdev is not being used correctly (#7263...)

even with evdev back in action, the bug does not reappear on olpc3

  • Action Needed set to finalize

This strange bug disappeared somewhere along with the OS upgrade. Might be release-notes-worthy.
