You can't place images into a table.

So it seems to work well, working with images in general. I wonder a bit why it was made floating in the first place (if there was a reason for that). Abiword itself seem to put it in place as well (might be good to check in general the upstream behavior). You might want to ask upstream for a confirmation, to me it looks good.

Now the default insert mode is inline. If the user need to add a floating image, can do it selecting a checkbox in the pallete of the insert image button.

I was able to place in-line as well as floating images in 10.1.3 os313 (Write 63.1). The application defaulted to allowing me to insert images via the Image menu in an inline manner that let me use them with tables.

{However, the clipboard Paste icon does not let you choose which method is used. Given that various things can be pasted {including text & mixed media} and not just images, I do not know if the control to enable/disable floating images should also appear here or not.}
