planet.laptop.org has inappropriate non-olpc content

Reported by: isforinsects Owned by: cjb
Priority: high Milestone:
Component: website Version: not specified
Keywords: Cc: kim@…
Action Needed: never set Verified: no
Deployments affected: Blocked By:

Please implement filtering tagging on primary blogs that are getting aggregated or remove the non-compliant blogs from the feeds list.

Currently 8 out of the first 13 entries don't involve OLPC at all. Three of which are from someone who is no longer part of OLPC at all, and one is sufficiently non-PC that we should have nothing to do with on a l.o URL.

"What can I say, I like my women like I like my wine: rich, French, and full-bodied.
Girl with German Accent: And here I thought you were going to say “white, German, and having dinner with a chauvinist asshole.” "

This appears to be a personal rant against Ivan, since I'm already taking OLPC-specific feeds from pvanhoof and jdahlin, who tagged the posts you claim to "not involve OLPC" with olpc tags.

I further disagree that making off-topic blog posts would be "non-compliant"; we're an aggregator of blogs by people interested in OLPC, not a blog about OLPC. Closing as WONTFIX.

Here's a post that's not from ivan:

When doing work on your house make sure you don't hit your finger with your 24Oz framing hammer. It Really Really hurts. Alot, Really.

And it's from Dennis Gilmore, our build engineer. I don't know how many times I have to say "we're an aggregator of blogs by people interested in OLPC, not a blog about OLPC". Please don't re-open this bug.

Can we also have an olpc view that is explicitly on-topic? As in, people are added once they have an olpc feed? I'd like a well-ordered source of updates about our projects, development, deployments, and the like -- one to which we can invite all enthusiasts, testers, and activity developers. I'd also like a spanish-language aggregator.

I don't know the best way to do this, but hope it can be within a single site.

SJ, that mostly describes what exists already -- I've asked everyone for OLPC-specific feeds, and taken them where possible. The result is still that often people don't write solely about OLPC.

I think I maintain that you're trying to make the content we have into an OLPC blog, where it's just not being written for that purpose. If you'd like to get a source of updates about our projects and deployments, you need to work on *getting people to write about them*, rather than hoping that source will appear if you can just remove enough content from the current planet.

I'm not opposed to creating more planets if you want them, though I'm unlikely to write any code to enable viewing multiple planets on a single site. Maybe planet.laptop.org could be a portal to offtopic-planet, ontopic-planet and spanish-planet, or something.

Oh, now I remember how people usually do this -- planet.laptop.org could be a planet that incorporates the offtopic-planet, ontopic-planet, and spanish-planet RSS feeds, and then people can subscribe to individual feeds easily if they prefer to.
