Write-sharing is very important to us so, as of 9/03, we would be willing to hold 8.2 for up to one week in order to search for a good resolution for this bug if it proves to be reproducible.

Write-sharing is very important to us so, as of 9/03, we would be willing to hold 8.2 for up to one week in order to search for a good resolution for this bug if it proves to be reproducible.

Got this right "in action". Started typing text into Write in one of the "invited" (not "inviting"!) laptops, immediately Write disappeared in both "invited" laptops. Collected lig files that include Telepathy log info. The laptops are still sitting on a mesh.

(In #8294) dup of #8281 where an identical Write crash is reported. The wlan circles are unrelated and the bug you describe has existed for all eternity and is tracked in other tickets.

I left Write running on XOs all weekend and it survived

What kind of network? Mesh? What kind of collaboration (private or public)? Did you try to type text into Write (in both inviting machine and invited one) after the weekend run?

8.2-759. Exactly the same happened with laptops connected to a school server with AP - no mesh involved.

I see in the logs that #6021 is occurring, and is a crasher which I provided a patch for a long time ago. I've pinged uwog about it and we should get a release out by Monday.

Collaboration with Write in 3 laptops connected to a school server survived the overnight run.

On the other hand, collaboration with Write in 3 laptops connected over the mesh network didn't survive the overnight run. It was a "private" collaboration, and Write disappeared by the morning in one of the "invited" laptops. 2 Other laptops were still running Write, but stopped collaborating with each other.

Log files from these 3 laptops are attached.

Joe, can you please try to narrow this down as much as possible so we can decide if it is still a blocker. There may be different reasons for write crashing (which Morgs can look into), but is the behavior much better than it was? Does private sharing of write work for >2 hours consistently?

Looking at the logs, the network was unreliable and collaboration broke - not Write's fault, it would kill any collaborative activity based on Tubes.

I can't see anything from the logs about Write disappearing, although the logs.CSN750007B0.2008-09-16.16-17-42.tar.bz2 file is corrupt so I can't see the Write log from that one.

Unless further testing shows something specific, I think this issue is resolved as far as Write itself goes.

Observed it today on a mesh, while running 8.2-762. Write disappeared in one of the "invited" laptops (private collaboration) after just ~ half an hour since the collaboration started.

Will attach a log file.

According to logs, this bug seems to be a consequence of #8492. I proposed a fix for it.

Joe, I've released Write-60 with Guillaume's fix to #8492. Please test that.

Tested in 767. Works fine with a school server, doesn't work (Write disappearing) with AP and on a mesh network.
