Home view shows blank due to text 'misteriously' appearing in the "Search box"

Sometimes some text 'misteriously' appears in the "Search box", which causes the screen becoming blank (white) in the Home view. It's very confusing for the user unfamiliar with how to "fix" this behavior (by deleting any text in the "Search box").

We're concerned about the usability implications of this issue but aren't sure how often it occurs. For the moment, we're content to settle for a release note.

I doubt that children will read release notes, but have no doubt they would become very confused when a laptop will present them with this bug.

Generally, I would recommend the access to the "Search box" to be redesigned, but in the mean time it makes sense to find a suitable workaround for a timely 8.2 release.

Maybe make a more visible fat blinking cursor in the query box, when the query box has text in it? (To draw the user's eye.)

I never noticed or used the query box in Home view til I saw this ticket.

I can see this being potentially confusing. Ticket #7969 covers the same issue, and has a few proposed solutions, so I'm closing this one as a duplicate.
