Firefox quits but leaves behind active icon?

Reported by: kkie Owned by: cscott

Description

Firefox will quit/close ... but a gray circle icon remains in the frame... this circle also gives the option of 'resume' and 'close' but both do nothing.

Over time, many circles fill up the frame, especially frustrating when installing/removing Firefox Ad-ons.

If I have other activities running (ie. Terminal) it becomes even more difficult to switch back to the correct gray circle that is supposed to be the running Firefox. (since there are many gray circles to choose from)

I see this as a potental problem going into G1G1-2 for average users like myself. Running os760 with firmware 2qe17 on G1G1 laptop.

I have seen the useless grey dot quite often; I think it is left behind only after a Firefox crash, not after a normal exit. But I could be wrong. Try ctrl-alt-erase to restart only Sugar (not the Linux kernel). But that will kill all running activities as well as killing the grey dots.

Try alt-tab for cycling thru running activities, if there are too many grey dots to choose from. It would be nice if multiple identical activity icons (or clipboard objects) could be distinguished with unique labels (maybe numbers) or colors.

Can anyone prepare a proper icon for Firefox activity? The Sugarization of Firefox needs improving, if it is intended for a mass release. But I certainly like Firefox-6, despite its remaining bugs.

Yes, I probably need to use libsugarize to properly communicate activity startup to Sugar. I've been hoping to avoid this until Sugar switches to use the standard activity startup notification system, which Firefox already supports, but maybe I can't wait that long...

For the time being, we're going to have to live with a relnote.

The current code is not supposed to leave a gray icon on exit. Need to diagnose what is going on.
