Description

There is no stylus provided with the laptop, and no place in the laptop to keep one when you aren't using it. If we provide one externally, kids will tend to lose it. If we don't provide one, they'll either write on the trackpad with pencils or pens or sticks or forks or the AC adapter or other objects we'd rather not have touching the trackpad.

It was easy not to notice the lack of a stylus when that half of the hardware didn't work, and when none of the software supported using it for much. But that era is ending.

I'm challenged to think of any other piece of hardware that can accept stylus input, yet doesn't have a stylus garage built into its frame, and come shipped with a stylus.

I think our thoughts have been that getting any "standard" stylus through any supply chain is unlikely, so it's pretty hard to predict what size/shape such a stylus might be; it's very likely to get lost quickly by a young child. I know I've lost multiple stylus' for my pda's.

A fingernail or gently sharpened stick of wood from what is at hand is suitable and most likely to be of use.

Of course, experience might prove you right.

It was a design decision, and will not be addressed - sylus's are lost and anything can function in that role. We can revisit for gen2

It seems to makes sense to close this ticket as wontfix at this point. OLPC does not seem interested in a stylus. The XO 1.5 no longer even has a stylus responsive section and AFAIK the hack to activate stylus support in the XO 1.0 wasn't incorporated in mainline development.
